BERLIN ELECTRIC began life as my 2020 'Lockdown Project'.
As soon as the NSW Government allowed people to invite a sole person to their house I called my collaborative partner, the gorgeously wonderful pianist Ms Bev Kennedy and said I had a new cabaret programme I wanted to develop based around the songs of the Weimar Era.
Days were spent listening to countless songs, ordering sheet music from Germany, Austria, the USA and Paris and then we set to work exploring in excess of 40 songs to come up with our final set list with the aim that the songs would help tell the stories of the songs' composers and performers during this exciting, turbulent and ultimately uplifting time.
What resulted was a show that has not only been my most successful box office wise, playing to sell out audiences at ETERNITY THEATRE for Darlinghurst Theatre Company, Claire's Kitchen at le Salon, The Chalet and Broken Hill Gallery, but a show I'm incredibly proud of and that people have enjoyed so much.
I'm so happy the show has been picked up by Chelsea Theatre in London and can't wait to take it to all sorts of wonderful locations in 2022! If you find yourself nearby, come and join in the Weimar fun!
